BDSmktg Larry Dorr Employee of the Year Spotlight: Katie S., HR Project Manager

02.27.2017

Our next Employee of the Year spotlight features one of the two winners of the Larry Dorr Award: Katie S., HR Project Manager! Katie has been a dedicated BDSer for over 9 years and will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with BDS this August. Katie is currently HR Project Manager, and some of her responsibilities includes taking on any projects that may come up and making sure that these projects have the proper resources assigned to meet their deadlines. Katie also became a mom this past year to a beautiful baby boy! Read on to learn more about Katie and her life at BDS.

Q: How does it feel to win this award?

It feels good to be recognized! I almost didn’t come because my baby was having a bad night, but my boss had insisted that I come and I didn’t think anything of it. I simply did my job; I didn’t really expect anything. It was a tough year and doing it while I was heavily pregnant added to challenge, but it still feels great to win.

Q: What is your favorite part about working for BDS?

I know everyone says this, but it’s the people here at BDS. I have the best boss, who has been with me for the past 10 years. Everyone’s just so nice and it’s a place that fosters relationships, which I really value.

Q: What have you gained from working at BDS?

I gained solid experience, a lot of good problem solving skills, and the ability to be agile. They say that here at BDS the only constant is change. There are always different things that are thrown at you and you need to be able to turn on a dime! I’ve learned that you need to be able to meet both the needs of HR and the needs of the business simultaneously. I’ve also learned to be flexible because you will drown if you can’t reprioritize properly.

Q: Do you believe in Big Foot?

I’m a sucker for conspiracy theories and I just recently saw something on the internet about Big Foot! It was a video of couple of birds hatching and in the corner, there was a figure like Big Foot in the video, so now I’m a firm believer of Big Foot!

Q: Growing up, what was your favorite board game?

I loved Operation. Wait, is Operation considered a board game? Chutes & Ladders was also fun and that was a definitely a board game.

Q: What is the luckiest thing that ever happened to you?

I must say that it’s my son being healthy. When he was born, he had to spend 10 days in the NICU since he had pulmonary hypertension which can be fatal in babies. Luckily it was a mild case and he made a full recovery.

Q: What is your favorite movie of all time? Why?

Anchorman! I love Will Ferrell and it just has so many great one-liners that I can apply to everyday life. I also love the 40-Year-Old Virgin! They’re both so funny and witty!
