BDSmktg Employee Spotlight: John Mullins, IT Developer Specialist

11.02.2015

In a new blog series, we’ll be spotlighting some of our very own talented BDSers who play vital roles in the day-to-day life of our agency. Some employees have been with BDSmktg for only a short while, while some are what we refer to as “boomerangs”, and others are BDSmktg “lifers”, having worked here for 10 years or longer. Some are “out in the field”, working hard to execute the services that we offer, while others work at our corporate office in Irvine, creating innovative solutions for our clients. Their intriguing, insightful, and entertaining stories are what fuel our unique culture and make BDSmktg a fantastic place to work.

Our first Employee Spotlight features John Mullins, IT Developer Specialist, who has been with BDSmktg for 15 years. His driven personality, dedication to his team, and great sense of humor make him a top-notch BDSer. Get to know more about John, his position, and his hobbies below!

Q: What is your favorite part about working for BDSmktg?
A: The people! Especially helping those fun, crazy people do their job a bit better or solving their problems. That’s fun.

Q: Briefly tell us about your job.
A: I build things that others can use. When a person logs in to Insight:Center™ they are logging into a system that I helped build. I also answer questions, from the mundane to the exceptionally strange.

Q: What song best describes your work ethic? Why?
A: “Back For More” – it says to “dig deep and break ground” and then to “come back for more.”

Q: Do you sing and dance while no one is watching?
A: Sing? Sure, but often it requires screaming along with the music. Usually on the freeway, as I pass all the people in their cars on my bike.

Q: What’s the best advice that anyone ever gave you?
A: Steve Gutman – he was my supervisor when I worked security. After working with him for a year or so, we were talking and he asked me why I was still there. He pointed out that someone who was as smart as I was should be doing something better than security. I decided to go back to school and chose to be a programmer because of that.
